History of 1st Harrow Weald Scout Group

1st Harrow Weald was founded by William Henry Peers in 1910. The group
was originally named "All Saints Scout Troop" but was changed as more
groups registered. 1st Harrow Weald is the one of the oldest groups in
the Area.

The group were originally based at Saints Church, in Uxbridge Road as
William Henry Peers was the vicar of the Church. In 1911 the group
moved to a farm barn of Harrow Weald where now Waitrose is. In 1936 the
Scouts were based at 1st Harrow Wealds current location at the top of
clamp hill.

Meeting were held in a small hut on the side until new head quarters
were completed in 1954. The hut was very basic with no mains drainage.
The only facilities were a chemical toilet and a kitchen with a cold
water tap. Heating was by a log fire.

The hut was extended to accommodate a kitchen, toilets and storeroom on
one side and mains drainage. In 1999 a large amount of money was spent
on the building, replacing the end wall and the roof.

1st Harrow Weald currently run a Beaver Colony on a
Monday, Cubs on Fridays and Scouts on late Friday evenings.

Famous members of the group have included the actor Nicholas Lyndhurst and the cricketer Angus Fraser.
